Those Scales and Techniques!?

Some of the classical guitar students will find practicing their scales kind of pointless and boring. I can understand that up to certain extend. The student, especially a beginner, may find it hard to believe or accept that playing a line of consecutive notes over and over will eventually improve their overall performance. Sometimes we, the teachers, get too busy putting together “those three pieces and that bunch of scales” for the coming exam, that Continue reading “Those Scales and Techniques!?”

How long do I need to practice for my guitar lessons?

I often get this question from students and parents, either in the very beginning when the first lesson is over or when for some reasons the student realizes that their progress is not good enough or not as good as they expect.

The answer can never be right. Well yes, the one need to practice but there are no such things as rules and regulations on how much practice the one should do. Usually the teachers say some number of Continue reading “How long do I need to practice for my guitar lessons?”

Choosing your guitar teacher

Making a choice of who to be your guitar teacher can be a changeling task. Here are some of my thought of what to consider wile attempting to learn guitar

Sometimes it is not easy to find a good teacher to feel comfortable with and to trust them. To begin with, Continue reading “Choosing your guitar teacher”

About “The new thing” in the guitar lesson

About “The new thing” in the guitar lesson

    Often I get students saying:

” We did this last week, I know it…”

There is a big difference between “I know it” and “I can do it” when it comes to skills.

The new thing can be anything from a new note, new technique, a theory concept…usually it is introduced theoretically in the class in order the student to have an idea about that particular mater.

Next step is to master the new thing by means Continue reading “About “The new thing” in the guitar lesson”

What Guitar do you need to start your Classical Guitar lessons?

To start your classical guitar lessons, you need a classical (Spanish) guitar.
There are plenty of music stores  where you can buy one. The sells man usually  are pretty helpful, in general they do a good job, some of them are even able to strum some chords on the guitar, trying to impress the costumer. But as you are a beginner and you never had guitar lessons, it is easy to be miss leaded by them. In the and of the day their job is to sell. So its not a good idea to relay Continue reading “What Guitar do you need to start your Classical Guitar lessons?”

“About being relaxed while playing guitar”

“Is it a mistake to attempt to play relaxed.”

At first what means “relaxed”? We have to agree somehow which meaning of that word we mean by using it in the guitar playing. If we take “relaxed” as that state of the body and the mind, where no physical action exists…Yes, in this respect the statement is absolutely right. But if we agree that by relaxed, we will understand: “to play with less strain or tension”-then that is the state we have to aim to. Continue reading ““About being relaxed while playing guitar””
